Start the Holiday Season with Blue Bridge and Classic Radio Drama

From December 14-17 Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre invites Victoria audiences to once again experience classic radio drama as it was produced in the “golden age of radio” at its home, The Roxy Theatre, in the heart of Quadra Village, Victoria. Reviving its perennial favourite “It’s A Wonderful Life” based on the 1947 film of the same name by Frank Capra, Blue Bridge will also premiere a new adaptation of the 1940’s Ernest Lubitsch film “The Shop Around The Corner” by Andrew Bailey.

Memories are Made at “The Nutcracker”

November 26, 2017. Alberta Ballet will perform The Nutcracker at the Royal Theatre from December 1 to 3. he ballet features gorgeous detailed costumes and million dollar sets by Emmy award winning designer Zack Brown. Choreographic Associate and Artist-in-Residence Edmund Stripe have created the choreography to Tchaikovsky’s memorable score.

Allotment Gardens at The Summit at Quadra Village

29 October 2017: The Hillside-Quadra Healthy Neighbourhood Working Group, in consultation with The Summit at Quadra Village project team have identified allotment gardens as a priority for a 5000 square feet area of the site. This summer, the groundwork to develop a plan for presentation to Island Health – and to share with neighbourhood residents for feedback – got underway. Given the number of people in the neighbourhood interested in healthy, locally grown food, and the number of folks challenged by food security issues, it seems like the creation of allotment gardens is long overdue.

Over the next few years, the City of Victoria and several institutional partners, including BC Housing, School District 61 and the Capital Regional District, will reach out to Hillside-Quadra residents to develop a vision and a plan for the neighbourhood. Please share your ideas and participate in the grassroots planning process that unfolds in the autumn of 2017 and beyond. This is our opportunity to shape the future of our neighbourhood and city – and everyone has a role to play.

Coming to a Hillside Crosswalk Near You!

Surely getting a simple change such as a pedestrian activated crossing light at Graham St. would not be too difficult? At least that’s what I thought going in! Thus began a very long process of working with the neighbourhood land use committee and navigating the corridors of City Hall.

Quadra Village Neighbourhood Gym Now Open!

March 19, 2017. On February 1 the gymnasium at the former Blanshard Elementary School opened its doors to the community as “The Quadra Village Neighbourhood Gym”. Under new management, through the Quadra Village Community Centre (QVCC), the gymnasium is now widely available for community use.
